Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Morgan Griffith have announced a second hearing in their series aimed at improving health care affordability. The hearing, titled “Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of the Prescription Drug Supply Chain,” will focus on understanding the factors contributing to high prescription drug costs. The event is scheduled for February 11, 2026, at the Rayburn House Office Building and will be open to the public and streamed online.

Chairmen Guthrie and Griffith said, “This marks the second hearing in our health care affordability series, confirming Republicans’ commitment to meaningfully lowering the cost of care for American families.” They emphasized their intent to engage with representatives from various sectors of the prescription drug supply chain, including pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors.

Rachel E. Sachs, a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis, will testify before the committee. She highlights that many Americans struggle with medication costs, leading some to skip doses or not fill prescriptions. Sachs identifies key issues such as horizontal consolidation and vertical integration within the supply chain that contribute to high prices.

The committee aims to explore potential reforms focusing on enhancing competition and transparency within the supply chain. Suggestions include strengthening oversight functions and considering structural separation proposals where necessary.
