U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) condemned violence at the U.S. Capitol today.

Hawley’s press office tweeted a statement from Hawley regarding the incident.

“Thank you to the brave law enforcement officials who have put their lives on the line,” Hawley’s statement said. “The violence must end, those who attacked police and broke the law must be prosecuted, and Congress must get back to work and finish its job.”

In recent days, Hawley announced he would object to the Electoral College vote during today’s joint session of Congress. Some of his constituents said the violence was his fault.

“Josh Hawley lit the match for today’s violence,” one replied. “His career should now be over.”

Others called for him to resign.

One user said that Hawley needed to remind Pence to reject the contested votes.

“At your first opportunity, remind Pence that several state legislatures have asked him to reject their own states' votes,” the user replied. “That means they know those votes are not legal and need to be remedied. Reject the contested votes."

Others thanked Hawley for his hard work.

“Thank you, Josh, there are no words for these fools that don’t have a clue,” the user replied. “Keep up the good work and thank you from Missouri!”

One supporter urged Hawley to acknowledge that the attacks on the capitol building were not done by true supporters of President Donald Trump.

“Senator Harley (sic), please acknowledge that those who did violence today were NOT true Trump supporters! They were leftist thug infiltrators. I was there. I saw,” the user replied.
