Patent 15

There were 16 patents granted in St. Louis in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is 19 less than the week before. Patents included a soybean cultivar 2529118.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to Monsanto Technology, LLC who filed in July 11, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
